No matter what your political or personal beliefs are, right now if you go to loser.com you will be redirected to Donald Trump’s Wikipedia page. A day out from his loss to Ted Cruz at the Iowa caucus, the artful linking probably feels particularly painful right now.
Before Donald Trump became one of the most contentious presences in US political history, and a gift to the meme-gods, loser.com was already taking aim at public figures. Pervious targets have included Kanye West, President Obama, Reddit and Al Gore. Apparently their definition of loser is pretty broad.
The domain has been a popular online in-joke since the it was registered in 1997. Back then, it was a Web 1.0 shrine to Apple Computers and “Yo Mama” jokes. In the past 19 years the site’s interests have become considerably more political—since 2000 it has primarily focused on elections and political figures.
It could be argued that loser.com is actually putting Donald Trump is in better company than usual. We’re betting it’ll be a while before he’s mentioned alongside 21st century heroes like Yeezy and Reddit again.
