It’s the end of an era. Cindy Crawford, the woman who was at the heart of the group dubbed “supermodels” — including Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, and Claudia Schiffer — is exiting the fashion industry on her 50th birthday, February 20.
Crawford is leaving on a high note, according to WWD. She recently appeared in Balmain’s buzzy spring 2016 campaign (along with Naomi and Claudia, see below), looking as fierce as ever.
The busy pro’s new autobiography, Becoming, has just been released. In it, Crawford shares the history of her 30-year modeling career. She has said of the book, “It was written to celebrate turning 50. Either you embrace it or hide. It’s hard for anybody, but especially for someone who’s whole business has been about aesthetics. It’s still hard – my birthday is in February and I can’t believe I’m really turning 50. But this helped me realize how much I’ve grown. Every line on your face is a lesson.”
She will pass the torch to her 14-year-old daughter, Kaia Gerber, whom Crawford has said is “chomping at the bit to model.” Kaia has already signed with IMG, and has appeared in editorial shoots for CR Fashion Book, Interview, Teen Vogue, and Vogue Italia.
