Stéphane Ashpool has come a long way since the “PIGALLE” branded tees inspired by Paris’ red light district, that launched his streetwear label in 2008. Now the namesake label has grown into one of Paris’ hottest brands, combining philosophy from the streets of Pigalle with beautiful design. Last year Ashpool won the ANDAM Award last year — beating fellow Parisan’s Vetements to the top spot.
With Pigalle’s 10th show, Ashpool’s vision and ambition have seen him graduate from self-taught, street-conscious designer, to someone whose name is on every critics’ lips. Titled “EROS”, the collection explores the feminine side all men have, and the eroticism it can create. Pastel colours, soft textures, hidden vents revealing busy, patterned pleats, organza-framed trackies, and painted fingernails and eyelashes, mixed with Ashpool’s trademark PIGALLE logo created a collection that combines sensuality with the street.
Set to Frank Sinatra’s I Love Paris, we go backstage with the designer in Pigalle’s Théâtre de l’Atelier, to see the beret-clad master at work.
