We’ve got a lot of love for Barbara Ferreira-more affectionately, Barbie-the Wilhelmina model reshaping the industry, alongside her crew of powerful pals, Diana Veras, Hari Nef and Petra Collins. Barbie’s latest industry victory is landing a swimwear campaign, and making sure the images didn’t touch photoshop.
For their fresh campaign video, Aerie have put Barbie poolside, where she shares some killer words about remaining “unapologetically myself.” The video’s brief, but very sweet.
Barbie’s spoken with i-D about body images a number of times, offering insight into the impossibility of newly idealised ‘thick’ woman; “having a 24-inch waist and 34-inch hips–with no cellulite and triple-D boobs–is clearly impossible.” Instead, Barbie says, we should all aim to love our bodies, even if-especially if- we’ve got rolls.
Barbie’s not the only curvy girl to land a big campaign lately. Plus-sized Parisian Clementine Desseaux made history in December when she became the first curvy model to front a Christian Louboutin campaign. We’re loving it.
