Stanley Kubrick’s visceral use of color throughout his career has always excited fervent fans and film critics. In spite of the director’s varying themes and formats — from the cold, stark whites of 2001: A Space Odyssey to the rich, blood reds of The Shining — Kubrick always utilized the symbolism of color to convey rich meaning and a signature aesthetic.
Taking inspiration from a video drawing together the consistent use of red in Kubrick’s films, Marc Anthony Figueras has put together a supercut that brings together the entire spectrum of colors employed by the director. The result is an epic journey through his most celebrated films, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut, all to the tune of The Blue Danube Waltz by Johann Strauss II.
