Marc Jacobs is keeping his spring/summer 16 ad campaign personal. The designer has cast a series of friends and characters from his rolodex to star in the images. The full list is yet to be revealed, but Marc began the rollout yesterday, posting the first image — starring his friend and muse Lana Wachowski — on his Instagram account.
Lana, who came out publicly about her gender transition in 2012, is known for her skill as a film director. She’s worked regularly with her brother Andy Wachowski since the mid 90s and together they’re responsible for classics The Matrix and V For Vendetta.
Lana first made an impression on Jacobs with her acceptance speech for the Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award in 2012. Jacobs described the speech as “utterly profound” and stated that Lana “expressed thoughts and ideas that have filled my head and heart always but had never been so eloquently captured in language that was so tangible, intelligent, poignant and full of possibility.”
Shot by David Sims and styled by Katie Grand, Lana’s MJ moment perfectly conveys the intended joy and spirit of the campaign — her pastel dreadlocks hanging loose. Keep your eye on Marc’s Instagram account for the rest of the images.
