THINX make period-proof underwear and have been doing it for years. It’s a top-notch idea and they’ve gotten plenty of praise for it. They’ve also faced a bunch of criticism, because their tagline was really trans-exclusionary. It read Underwear for women with periods, perpetuating the myth only women get periods. That’s just not true: transgender men can too.
The brand’s CEO Miki Agrawal admitted she hadn’t considered trans people when launching the brand, so she set out to figure out how include trans men in THINX. She came up with boxer brief that holds one tampon’s worth of fluid. The item was released, accompanied by a personal essay penned by Sawyer Devuyst, about his experience as a trans man.
It looks like people are embracing a product that’s long overdue. Here’s a super sweet message a customer left on the site:
I am a transguy, and I have several of your products. I can’t think of any “feminine” hygiene company that acknowledges the vast array of people who buy their products that aren’t ciswomen or cisgirls. Thank you for accepting us.
