After working as Commissioning Photo Editor of i-D in the early 80s, Nick Knight founded SHOWstudio in 2000. 10 years after that, he was made an OBE in recognition for his contribution to the arts. This year, the legendary photographer and digital fashion pioneer will be awarded the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator.
The British Fashion Council announced this morning that Knight will be following in the footsteps of Edward Enninful (another fashion legend who has passed through i-D’s hallowed halls — he was our youngest ever fashion editor at 18-years-old!), Lady Amanda Harlech, and Professor Louise Wilson OBE.
Since publishing his first, now iconic book Skinheads in 1982, Knight has gone on to work with designers such as Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Yohji Yamamoto and brands including Calvin Klein, Christian Dior and Tom Ford. He snapped 100 portraits for i-D’s fifth anniversary issue and returned again to photograph the whole of our 30th birthday issue. Knight has also created award-winning music videos for the likes of Björk, Lady Gaga and Kanye West (never forget).
With such an illustrious career behind him and incredible vision for the future of fashion, Knight is a fitting recipient for the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator this year. He’ll be presented with it at a ceremony on November 22.
