Mya Taylor, the star of groundbreaking comedy Tangerine is in talks to create her own autobiographical TV show. This is a good time for trans characters on television–think Transparent, Orange is the New Black and I am Cait–though subscriber services, not big networks are largely responsible.

Mya’s show would tell the story of her own transition, here’s how she put it in an interview with Screen magazine.

“My experience was actually way more dramatic than that of the characters in Tangerine. I would be interested to portray that journey. I’m trying to get a TV series started about it. It will cover the struggle pre transition, during transition and after. I have a team working on it and I would be an exec producer.”

This is another exciting move for Mya, following the announcement she and her Tangerine co-star Kitana Kiki Rodriguez will receive Academy Award campaigns. We’re crossing our fingers that the campaigns end with both girls nominated. If they are, it’ll be the first time any trans person has been nominated, though cis actors have been nominated–and won–for trans roles.
