This year, CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund has been handed to three brands (as opposed to the usual one). Avant-garde and queer label Gypsy Sport, footwear line Brother Vellies and contemporary womenswear brand Jonathan Simkhai were all winners, and will take home $300,000 each for their “capacity for future distinction in the fashion industry.”
As well as investment, the designers will be mentored through the next levels of their career. Over the past four months, the designers have faced a number of design, advertising and runway challenges before the final showdown, which took place at the Chateau Marmont yesterday. Previous winners include Alexander Wang, Public School and Joseph Altuzarra, so there’s plenty to live up to.
