Hip hop is full of fashion killas, and rappers regularly insert their favorite design houses into their lyrics, but we now know exactly which labels have racked up the very most mentions over the past 20 years.
Gucci takes the top spot, storming ahead of the pack with over 1,000 mentions; however, some have pointed out that at least a portion of those tracks will actually be people referring to Gucci Mane, especially as he is listed as a top name-dropper for the Italian house with mentions on 17 tracks, second only to Soulja Boy’s 27 mentions.
A favorite of Mac Dre, the Game and Nelly, sports giant Nike takes second place with 687 mentions, beating rival Adidas by three places (they’re in 5th with 287). Drake and Jay Z favorite Prada rounds out the top 3, with 431 tracks since 1995, and 4th spot goes Versace. Migos is, in fact, not in their top mentions, which is topped by Soulja Boy, Future, Notorious B.I.G., and it appears to be the top house among female rappers, with Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim showing Donatella lyrical love.
