What’s good? ABC Family have just announced that queen of hip hop Nicki Minaj is executive producing and appearing in her own TV show. That’s what’s good. Penned by Sex Tape co-writer Kate Angelo, the comedy series will follow Nicki’s move with her family from her native Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago to New York, growing up in 90s Queens and her eventual rise to the throne.
This isn’t the first time Nicki’s taken to the silver screen, she actually pursued acting before launching her platinum selling career as a recording artist, studying visual and performing arts at LaGuardia High School in Manhattan when she was a teenager. You may also remember her stints as the voice of Steffie, the young Brat Pack mammoth in Ice Age: Continental Drift, and the hilarious Lydia in The Other Woman.
The Nicki Minaj sitcom has no official air date as of yet and no other cast members have been revealed, but Nicki herself has announced a nationwide search for #YoungNicki on her Instagram, and the Barbz have no shortage of suggestions on her Twitter, including Amandla Sternberg to which Nicki replied, “Wow. Now this is actually a GREAT suggestion. I kinda want an unknown tho.” So if you think you’re like pelican fly, keep your eyes peeled for more info…
I am now launching a nation wide search to find #YoungNicki https://t.co/TjSPQgMIUj
