Future superstar Tinashe makes her intentions thrillingly clear in a trailer for new album Joyride, musing, “Maybe they haven’t adequately heard me? Maybe I have more to offer?” before telling us: “I can’t be ignored, motherfuckers.”
For Joyride, the follow-up to last year’s sublime debut album Aquarius, the rising R&B star has put in studio time with Max Martin, the producer responsible for Britney Spears’ classic run of late 90s/early 00s hits, and Dr Luke, who’s crafted world-conquering pop bangers for the likes of Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj. These big-name collaborators surely signpost Tinashe’s growing ambitions — as she told i-D earlier this year, “I’m always planning ahead… I’ve definitely been thinking about where I want to go.”
Don’t expect Joyride to be a straight up pop record though. She’s also worked with hipsters’ favourite Dev Hynes and frequent Drake collaborator Boi-1da, who’s produced the first track Tinashe will share from the album, Party Favors, which is due in the next few weeks. She’s yet to announce the album’s release date, but fans are whispering that it could drop some time in November – watch this space.
