The groundbreaking concept behind Spring 1883 sees galleries invited to install themselves into a boutique hotel suite, adapting the space to best exhibit their artists’ work. Doing away with conventional art fair set-ups, in favour of a more interactive formula, the model was tested at Melbourne’s iconic Windsor Hotel in 2014.
This year, the event’s organisers have teamed up with legendary Italian luxury house Bvlgari to bring Spring 1883 to Sydney—taking over the entire Establishment Hotel with work provided by galleries from across Australia, New Zealand and abroad. The pairing marks another chapter in the label’s extensive history of involvement in Sydney’s artistic community, which annually awards an $80,000 art prize in collaboration with the Gallery of NSW.
Admission to Spring 1883 is free and open to the public, the event runs from the 10th-12th of September from 12-7pm daily.
