It's called Terrence Loves You and the lyrics reference David Bowie's Space Oddity.

When Lana Del Rey was asked to name her favourite song from new album Honeymoon, she picked Terrence Loves You and described the track as “jazzy”. So it makes sense that she’s made it the third Honeymoon cut to be unveiled following the hypnotic High By the Beach, whose stunning video was released last week, and the album’s cinematic title track.

It’s easy to see why Lana’s so keen on Terrence Loves You: it’s a gorgeously mournful ballad that finds her lamenting – but also kind of luxuriating in – the loss of a loved one. “And I lost myself when I lost you, and I still get trashed darling when I hear your tunes,” she purrs ruefully on the chorus.

There’s also a reference to David Bowie’s 1969 classic Space Oddity as Lana sings “ground control to Major Tom” on the bridge, not to mention a quintessentially Lana line insisting that “Hollywood legends will never grow old”. Lana’s Honeymoon album, which is due on September 18, is now shaping up to be her most intriguing yet: it also features original songs called Art Deco, Religion and The Blackest Day, a cover of Nina Simone’s Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood and an interlude named after the T.S. Eliot poem Burnt Norton.
