a$ap backs drake over meek

But above all, is happy for the rap version of the Super Bowl.

In an interview with MTV at Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky was pushed for a preference in the diss track battle between Drake and Meek Mill. The outcome? “There had to be a loser in the outcome, and it was Meek” (although he added, “Meek will be fine…he has a fanbase of his own.”) This comes off the back of Ice Cube telling The Daily Beast, “Drake is winning right now, but, you know… Meek could come back.”

Rocky was most happy to see some “good sportsmanship” back in the game, comparing the whole thing to the Super Bowl and saying, “for real, that shit was fun.” The discussion also turned to Drake’s alleged ghostwriter – the accusation that Meek Mill made which kicked the whole battle off – and Rocky pointed out that “If somebody helped Drake, I dunno, that might be considered cheating, but whoever wrote that — not saying Drake ain’t write it, I’m quite sure he did — that shit was insane.”

He also made the point that the public probably doesn’t care whether Drake writes his own material anyway, since they’ve long accepted that R&B and pop musicians are rarely wholly responsible for their own lyrics and music. To him it still matters though: “I come from an old school aesthetic — me being 26 — coming from the point of, when I was coming up, it was all about writing your rhymes… I don’t know what to believe… Regardless of if Drake write his shit or not, I’m still a fan.”
