caitlyn jenner could be crowned social media queen

But only if she beats off Taylor, Miley, Nicki, Katy and Selena for the title, that is.

When Caitlyn Jenner joined Twitter on June 1, she attracted a million followers in just four hours and three minutes, beating a record previously held by Barack Obama. Her number of Twitter followers has since snowballed to 2.75m and the trans trailblazer is proving even more popular on Instagram, where she now has 3.3m followers. So we shouldn’t be too surprised that the Teen Choice Awards have recognised Jenner’s appeal on social media by nominating her for their Social Media Queen prize. Her fellow nominees are five A-list pop stars: Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Selena Gomez.

After hearing that she’d been nominated yesterday, Jenner accepted the accolade with her usual grace, tweeting: “And to think I wouldn’t have qualified for this nom a few months ago… What an honor! #TeenChoice #SocialMediaQueen”

This year’s Teen Choice Awards take place on 16th August, and if Jenner wins, she’ll be accepting her second major prize of the summer. Last month she received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY Awards in LA and took the opportunity to deliver an inspirational speech, which touched on realities of being trans today, the power of sport, and the need to foster understanding and respect.
