After Taylor Swift apologized to Nicki Minaj on Twitter last night, the rapper thanked her and said “let’s move on.” Admitting that she had initially failed to grasp why Nicki was so disappointed with this year’s VMA nominations, Taylor tweeted: “I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki.”
“That means so much Taylor, thank you,” Nicki replied, sealing their reconciliation with three heart emojis. In a subsequent tweet, the rapper said she had gained “respect” for Taylor following her apology and urged the pair to put their disagreement behind them.
Nicki also thanked Katy Perry, who shared her own thoughts on the controversy yesterday, by tweeting a kissy face emoji at the singer.
Taylor and Nicki’s disagreement began when the rapper took to Twitter to criticize this year’s MTV VMA nominations. Disappointed that her Anaconda video hasn’t been nominated for the prestigious Video of the Year prize, Nicki tweeted on Tuesday night: “if your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.” Taylor presumed that Nicki was referring to her own Bad Blood video, which has been nominated for Video of the Year, and tweeted back at the rapper: “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..”
