Stefano Pilati has left his position as creative lead at Italian luxury womenswear brand Agnona. Though Pilati will remain as head of design at menswear label Ermenegildo Zegna (which own Agnona), the fashion rumor mill has started turning at full speed to predict where Pilati’s womenswear talents will be put to use next.
When Pilati left his position as creative director at Yves Saint Laurent in 2012, it was rumored then that he might be preparing to take over at Armani when Giorgio Armani decides to retire, and it is this rumor that is gaining traction again today. WWD reports that, since leaving Agnona, Pilati will be free to pursue “personal projects in women’s ready-to-wear.”
While there has been no suggestion from either Armani or Pilati that these rumors are true, it is interesting to note that the other half of those 2012 rumors — that Hedi Slimane would replace Pilati at YSL — did indeed prove to be correct. Watch this space!
