Sibling are known for their colourful knitwear and tongue-in-cheek (and maybe in other places too) style; but for spring/summer 16, they added another string to their bow. The London trio presented tailoring for the very first time, and – although their boys were bursting out of the trousers like a jock-strapped Tom of Sweden – the suits were eminently wearable. “Proper suiting,” as Cozette McCreery describes it.
“We’ve been thinking about doing it for quite some time and introduced a very low-key trouser shape for AW15 but wanted to find the right partner so that our first ever Sibling suit would, in the tradition of Sibling, be the best we could offer,” McCreery continued; that partner was The Woolmark Company, who suggested a collaboration with Savile Row legend Edward Sexton – the brains (or scissors) behind Tommy Nutter’s famous 70s bespoke tailoring shop.
In a film that premiered during London Collections: Men and that i-D can now present online, Sexton says that the collaboration stirred-up “a lot of memories for me, the music, the look; it made me relive my youth! This association with Sibling – it was a lot of fun for me to do that.” Mods on Lambretta scooters, footage of American ball games, the streets of London, vintage cartoons and even the moon landing are spliced into the film as a backdrop to Sexton’s words.
