After penning an open letter to Governor Cuomo about New York City’s youth homelessness epidemic, launching a series of fundraising performances with help from Joan Jett and Ariana Grande, and incorporating art and animal therapy in her charitable works, Miley Cyrus isn’t slowing down her activist hustle. This morning, the 22-year-old pop provocateur announced a new Happy Hippie Foundation initiative in collaboration with Instagram.

To coincide with Pride celebrations around the world, Miley’s new campaign shares the stories of young transgender and genderqueer creatives, like Rookie writer Tyler Ford. For her #InstaPridePortaits, Miley stepped behind the camera to document members of the LGBTQA community and shed more light on the myriad issues affecting its population. Over the next two weeks, Miley will share one portrait each day on Instagram, accompanied by the subject’s own words. “This last year as I’ve been transitioning, there’ve been a lot of moments when I truly felt free to be myself,” says Leo Sheng, a 19-year-old college student from Michigan and the series’ first profile.

InstaPridePortraits arrives as trans trailblazers like Laverne Cox, Caitlyn Jenner, Andreja Pejić, Lea T and Hari Nef push cultural conversations about trans rights and experiences boldly forward. But as recently discussed in her Paper cover story, Miley doesn’t see her own gender identity in binarizing terms, either: “I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl,” she told the magazine.
