Malia Obama is officially becoming the coolest first-daughter in American history. She’s an aspiring filmmaker, who worked as a production assistant on the set of Halle Berry’s TV show Extant, and fan of Brooklyn based rap collective Pro Era. Her all-American charm has even drawn admirers who live far outside the US. Yesterday, Jeff ole Kishau, a Maasai moran gospel musician, offered President Obama 500 cows for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Kishau is not the first Kenyan man to ask for Malia’s hand; on May 26, Kenyan lawyer Felix Kiprono Mategei offered a mere 50 cows to wed the American sweetheart.
This is not a joke. The Daily Nation reports that Kishau “searched for Malia through Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Twitter all in vain.” And, now he is planning to follow Maasai tradition and send his proposal through the village elders.
The proposals are a little disconcerting as Malia is just 16 years old, but whether her father is fine with the eight year age gap, only time will tell.
