    Petra Collins

What do you do and why do you do it?
Art (I take photos, curate shows, make sculptures). I do it to stay alive and to hopefully create change.

What are you working on at the moment?
Working on a feature film and a book called Babe that features over 30 tales of female artists.

What advice would you give young people wishing to follow in your footsteps?
As cheesy as it is, do not give up and do not give a fuck about what people think.

We’re celebrating the 35th Birthday Issue of i-D, when did you last celebrate and what was the occasion?
Celebrating myself – you’ve got to do it every day. I’m lucky to be alive and do what I do.

Tell us one thing that no one knows about you.
My obsession with cavalier King Charles spaniels. I follow like 200 cavalier Instagrams.

What do you do and why do you do it?
Everything and nothing. I can afford to take a day off. I wish that for everyone.

    Describe yourself in five words.
    Calm, boring, creative, scared, brave.

How did you start your career?
    On the internet.

What are you working on at the moment?
Some music, videos, and my first photo book.

What advice would you give young people wishing to follow in your footsteps?
Don’t follow mine, follow yours. Don’t care about a career, care about what you believe in and what you love. If you only do fun things that you believe in, you will never regret where you go.

Tell us one thing that no one knows about you?
I’m a pretty open person, so most people know stuff about me.

    What’s your party trick?
I can roll my tongue into a funny shape.

Finish this sentence: 35 is the new…
Chill. Get a dog and go to sleep early.
