Designer Hussein Chalayan will open his very first store later this summer at 2 Bourdon Street in London, halfway between Bond Street and Green Park tube stations. The 700 sq ft store will stock both the women’s and men’s ready-to-wear collections.
“We are thrilled to open our first flagship store in London, for me the most important metropole in the world, where I grew up and to which I owe my development as a designer,” Chalayan says, adding “Bourdon Street will be an exciting new home for us and we look forward to welcoming our clients, and all who are interested in discovering the Chalayan world, to a space which truly reflects our philosophy and ethos.”
Chalayan is known for referencing architecture and interiors in his fashion designs, so it will be interesting to see how he applies these influences to an actual building. Will it have a home section, where the tables become skirts (autumn/winter 2000)? Or a garden, where clothes are buried under the ground (á la Chalayan’s 1993 graduate collection)? We can’t wait to find out!
