Marques’Almeida, the London-based fashion designers who found fame through their frayed denim, has won the prestigious and highly profitable LVMH Prize in Paris this afternoon. Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida will take home €300,000 (roughly $330,000) and receive a year’s worth of technical support, covering intellectual property, sourcing, production and distribution, image and advertising, marketing and more. Actress Natalie Portman awarded them the prize, and a second special prize was given to Jacquemus, who will take home €150,000 ($165,000).
Marques’Almeida beat out fellow finalists Arthur Arbesser, Coperni, Faustine Steinmetz, Craig Green, Off-White and Vêtements. The LVMH Prize was launched in 2013 to spotlight and support young fashion designers. Last year’s winner was Britain’s Thomas Tait. Congrats to Marta and Paulo!
