    Peter Sutherland’s 70s 80s 90s 00s
Artist Peter Sutherland returns to the Still House Group’s Red Hook gallery with 70s 80s 90s 00s, his second exhibition of site-specific installations in the space in two years. Using the rooms of the gallery themselves, he reinvents each space so that the floor, walls, ceiling and pillars are part of the story. Sutherland’s sense of humor and use of inventive materials are both out in full force — his new works feature skis and Firestone truck tyres.

Through Friday, May 29, at The Still House Group, 481 Van Brunt Street, Brooklyn.

    Azealia Banks
A performance by Azealia Banks has everything: razor-sharp lyrics, pounding beats, attitude and envelope-pushing style. This week, the New York native who never seems to run out of things to say takes to the stage at Irving Plaza to support her debut studio album, Broke with Expensive Taste. The show promises energy-packed renditions of gems like “212,” “Miss Amor,” “Luxury” and “Heavy Metal and Reflective.”

Monday, May 11 at 7PM, at Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Place.

    Jessica Hopper’s Book Launch
Even if you don’t know Jessica Hopper‘s name, you probably know her work — if you’re into music at all, that is. The EIC of Pitchfork has been writing for zines, magazines and blogs since she was 16, covering everything from mainstream pop to hardcore punk. Her work has always had a feminist prerogative, asking the questions that need to be asked about women in music and paving the way for more to do so. WORD will celebrate the launch of her book, The First Collection of Criticism by a Living Female Rock Critic, with an appearance and reading from Hopper.

Monday, May 11 at 6:30PM and 7:30PM, at WORD, 126 Franklin Street, Brooklyn.

    Frieze New York
This weekend brings what is arguably New York’s most important art event to town. For three days, the most respected, buzz-worthy galleries from around the world will come together for Frieze New York on Randall’s Island, presenting booths containing the works of their most exciting artists. In addition to new talent, and new work from established artists, there will be plenty of VIP sightings, food and drinks from some of the city’s most hyped spots, and a program of talks with the likes of critic Jerry Saltz — make sure you catch his Q&A, “Ask Jerry.”

Thursday, May 14 to Sunday, May 17, at Randall’s Island Park.
