Freja Beha Erichsen and Liya Kebede are the kinds of supermodels who no longer have to walk any shows or even bother having an Instagram account — the glossy magazine covers and campaign offers will still roll in. But when the pair opened and closed yesterday’s Louis Vuitton fall/winter 15 show, you got the impression that they were doing it out of love for the designer himself. Nicolas Ghesquière has stuck by both Freja and Liya since day one and they’ve stuck by him. You can’t choose your family, but you can choose your muse, and these are the designer-model tag teams that we can tell are gonna last forever.
Mariacarla Boscono and Riccardo Tisci
The Snow White lookalike and Givenchy creative director have been pals since they met when Mariacarla was a teen and walked in a student’s BA degree show at Central Saint Martins in London. Now she’s in his campaigns alongside models of another era (i.e. Kendall Jenner). The pair even appeared together on the cover of i-D’s The Lovers of Life Issue in 2010.
Daria Werbowy and Phoebe Philo
If you look closely, or even if you don’t, you can see that Daria and Phoebe Philo are the same person. They’re dead ringers, from their faces to their demeanors. Maybe that’s why Daria opened and closed multiple shows when Phoebe was at Chloé, and why, over 10 years later, she’s the face of Phoebe’s current house, Céline.
Kate Moss and Marc Jacobs
They’ve been mates since she changed the face of fashion in the 90s, walking in his earliest shows, including his infamous Grunge collection for Perry Ellis in 1992. The waif quit the catwalk 11 years ago but set the fashion world on fire once more by lighting up a fag on Marc Jacobs’ Louis Vuitton runway for fall/winter 11, and by going on to walk in his shows (and only his) from then on. And who could forget the gold turban look she wore alongside him at the Met’s “The Model As Muse” gala?
Anna Ewers and Alexander Wang
This one doesn’t quite match the decades-long relationships of some of the others (yet!). But since Anna Ewers burst onto the scene all blonde hair and Bardot sex appeal two years ago, The Wang has used her in every one of his own shows, every Balenciaga show he’s overseen and every Alexander Wang campaign since spring/summer 14. She’s also the face of B, the Balenciaga fragrance. These two are baes 4 lyf.
Cara Delevingne and Karl Lagerfeld
Karl Lagerfeld has had many a pretty young thing hanging off his elbow in his time; Vanessa Paradis, Keira Knightley, Blake Lively, Lily Allen, Alice Dellal, Kristen Stewart… But there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Cara Delevingne is King Karl’s fave. She’s the face of Chanel resort 2013, Fendi fall/winter 13 and Chanel fall/winter 14 and has appeared in every one of his shows since Chanel Haute Couture spring/summer 12 and Fendi fall/winter 12 (the two have closed shows, walking hand-in-hand, more than a few times). And the love goes both ways: Cara gave up her spot on the Victoria’s Secret runway to appear in Karl’s Chanel Metiers d’Art show last December. It’s a love that’s set to last.
