It’s already been called “the definitive Kurt Cobain documentary,” but as of today, we’ve finally gotten our first look at Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck. The film’s director, Brett Morgen, shared the trailer on Twitter earlier this afternoon via Yahoo Films, and the internet has since gone wild with anticipation.
Although it’s under three minutes long, the trailer manages to cram in clips of practically pristine home footage from the Nirvana frontman’s second birthday, eerie music-box covers of Come as You Are, wild tour footage, and snippets of interviews with Kurt’s mother Wendy, widow Courtney Love, and former bandmate Krist Novoselic, among others. The film was produced in part by Kurt’s only daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, and will feature a 12-minute, unreleased acoustic track.
Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will make its television premiere May 4 on HBO.
