This evening in Antwerp, Dries Van Noten launches the second leg of his exhibition Inspirations at MoMu. The show, which first opened at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris last February and was extended for an epic nine months in total, will introduce a string of new themes and major artworks by the Belgian designer’s favorite artists, juxtaposed with his own collections. “I always supported [MoMu], so after the Paris exhibition, the decision was quickly made to do Antwerp also,” Van Noten told i-D.
The new exhibition features works by Yves Klein, Thierry De Cordier, Victor Vasarely, Damien Hirst, Cecily Brown, Pol Bury, Christopher Wool, Hubert Duprat, Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko and James Tissot, next to historical designer garments and visuals of the people and media, which have inspired Van Noten through his 30 years in fashion—and beyond. The launch will be marked by a party at MoMu tonight before the exhibition opens to the public tomorrow.
Last year, i-D kicked off the exhibition’s residency in Paris with a short film on the show and Van Noten’s inspirations, featuring the designer himself.
Dries Van Noten Inspirations runs at ModeMuseum Antwerp 13 February to 19 July.
