    The world was entranced by 12 year old Maddie Ziegler in Sia’s Chandelier, and it seems classical forms of dance are becoming a trend as Hozier enlists ballet’s runaway maverick Sergei Polunin for Take Me To Church.

    In skin coloured shorts similar to the ones Shia La Beouf wore in Chandelier follow up Elastic Heart, Sergei Polunin pirouettes across an empty, sunlit building in a video shot by David LaChapelle for Hozier’s Take Me To Church . Since his documentation on the rise of Krumping among the kids of LA in 2005 film Rize, LaChapelle has looked on dance as artistic expression and this new video is another vision of beauty, seduction and emotion. And who better to express it than the designated “bad boy” of ballet? Polunin’s never been one to hide his party antics, admitting to being on stage high from cocaine, enjoying drinking and smoking as pastimes and collecting tattoos/scarification, yet still being able to pull off becoming the Royal Ballet School’s youngest ever principal dancer at 19. After dropping out to join the Stanislavsky Music Theatre, the now 25-year-old Ukrainian was adopted by the fashion world, appearing in Marc Jacobs’ autumn/winter 14 ad campaign and being interviewed by yours truly two years ago. He hates happy ballets so prepare for an emotional rollercoaster in the next four minutes of music video genius…
