“This is a Missy Elliott one time exclusive” is right: speaking on the condition of anonymity, a source familiar with the plans for the Super Bowl halftime extravaganza told the Associated Press that supa dupa fly producer and emcee Missy Elliott is slated to get her freak on alongside Katy Perry on Sunday.
Although Elliott’s appearance has yet to be confirmed or even announced by the NFL, Perry had previously hinted at a possible performance during a press conference on Thursday. The pop smash stated that an…”old school” (cringe) female performer would join her for the show, but didn’t name names.
Anyone who also snuck margaritas into opening night of the Katy Perry 3D movie knows full well that the California native’s totally over-the-top stadium spectaculars made her an obvious choice for the multi-million dollar blowout. But given Perry’s penchant for brandishing candy cane striped foam guns and shooting fireworks out of her face on stage, it seems a bit off that Elliott is playing second fiddle.
Whether on the boards or the mike, Misdemeanor has been behind some of the most iconic songs of the last two decades. First teaming with Timbaland back in 91, the pair wrote and produced ten tracks for Aaliyah, two for Whitney Houston, and one for Destiny’s Child. The crazy futuristic Hype-Williams directed music videos for her own singles probably even taught a young Perry a thing or two about performance. But then again, Missy never rocketed whipped cream out of her glitter bustier, did she?
