    dame viv fights fracking

As MPs reject bid to suspend the practice in the UK, i-D cover star, fashion designer and campaigner Dame Vivienne Westwood protests.

Godmother of Punk and leader of the Climate Revolution, Dame Vivienne Westwood took to the streets of Westminster alongside Bianca Jagger and former UK climate envoy John Ashton, to speak out against fracking (drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at a high pressure in order to fracture shale rocks to release natural gas inside). MPs rejected a bid to suspend fracking (although they pledged not to carry it out in national parks), but the fight is still on as the proposed amendment to the Infrastructure Bill was heavily defeated in the House of Commons.

The news comes just three days after the doyenne of protest fashion pledged to donate £300,000 to the fast growing Green party and offered her full support to them ahead of the May 2015 General Election. In an interview with New Statesmen Westwood claims, “None of the other parties are pro-community. The Labour party used to say it was the people’s party; it’s exactly the same as the Conservative party. There’s not a hair to put between them. The difference is the Green party is a people’s party, they are putting people first and all the other parties put business first.”

Who will you be voting for come May?
