Last night, New Yorkers marched across the city to protest the Grand Jury’s verdict in the trial of Darren Wilson, the policeman who fatally shot unarmed Ferguson teen Michael Brown. Photographer Christelle de Castro captured the protestors on their march from Times Square, through Soho, across the Brooklyn Bridge, to the Fulton Mall.
Christelle said, “The protest was very charged, frustration and desperation was thick in the air, but it was peaceful. Not a single person reacted violently or aggressively. The people leading the march at the front of the line made sure to stop and wait if the crowd became too scattered from people tiring and falling behind. When we got to the bridge everyone began to lock arms. As we exited the bridge, there were lines of police waiting at the bottom of the runway. Many of us feared this was where we would be arrested, so the crowd continued to link arm and arm, and walked passed the officers.”
New Yorkers will gather again tonight at 7pm at Union Square for the Day After The Announcement.
