Mikako Tabe is the 24 year old actress who went from playing Sailor Star Healer in Sailor Moon on the stage, to starring in films opposite i-D cover star Shota Matsuda and amassing a super-kawaii following with her big black eyes and animé features. From the TV to the silver screen to a billboard near you, if you’re in Tokyo, Mikako’s is a face you’ll see everyday.
How did you get into acting?
My parents took me to lot of musicals. Then I got into acting.
What’s your career highlight so far?
When I acted in the movie Hinokio at the age of 15. It was the first time I was in a long shoot, very tough and fun at the same time. That was the job where I learned a lot.
What would be your dream role?
Want to play as a house wife who goes to cooking school.
How do you feel when you see your face on billboards or TV?
I still feel it’s not really me.
Where is the best place to go to see interesting fashion on the street in Tokyo?
Harajuku.
What’s the best thing about living in Tokyo?
The convenience.
What’s the worst thing about living in Tokyo?
I can’t think of anything particular.
Where’ is your favourite place to go in Tokyo that’s off the beaten track?
My hometown.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
LA or NY.

Secret.
Who would your dream date be?
A date with Ethan Hawke.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I want to have the same lifestyle I have now in my private life and my career life. If there is anything that would change, there would be my husband and my child by my side.
