Lights! Camera! Action! A special episode of Coach TV: Public Access debuted on Saturday as part of the brand’s SS22 show at Hudson River Park’s Pier 76 in New York City. Made in collaboration with the Coach Family, including Bob the Drag Queen, Rickey Thompson, Megan Thee Stallion, Chaka Khan and many more, the episode paid tribute to iconic NYC landmarks such as Central Park, Zabar’s, Serendipity and the Brooklyn Bridge, as well as the role the city continues to play in inspiring people all over the world. Of course, being that it is New York Fashion Week and all, Stuart Vevers followed the special episode with an energetic runway show that saw models zooming in and around the pier on skateboards, bicycles and included a finale with a full-on marching band.
The fresh-faced models wore collectible graphic T-shirts that celebrated the beloved city institutions, trompe l’oeil pocket dresses, pastel leather jackets with pointed structural sleeves and tailored separated in bright oversized check print, all styled with playful beaded necklaces and earrings that nod to the house’s youthful spirit. Classic American sportswear silhouettes and styles — including a number of Western-inspired denim vests and printed baseball caps — were upgraded with the iconic Coach turnlock, created in in the 1960s by Coach’s first head designer Bonnie Cashin. The SS22 collection pays tribute to her progressive attitude and original designs — reimagining ready-to-wear staples and handbags from Bonnie’s archive — and celebrates the role Coach has played in shaping the legacy of American style.
“Spring presents my vision of a new vocabulary of American fashion inspired by our 80-year heritage through the lens of the next generation,” Stuart said in the press release. “A celebration, too, of the colorful, upbeat optimism of Coach’s first designer Bonnie Cashin, it’s a collection I designed in response to the times we are living through — and a collective wish for a better, brighter future.”
