Holiday is the label dreamed up by Nick Holiday, one of the designers responsible for Brockhampton’s unique looks and merch. His latest drop take inspiration not from music, however, but from our Mother the Earth, and is adorned with “Earth Wear” slogans over the usual Holiday palette of upbeat, hyper-pigmented colours. “I really just everyday sat in my office and put a red light on, and had a screen playing videos of helicopter footage of flying over amazing places in the world I have never seen,” says Nick of the collection, “Pulling colors and figuring out the clothes I would want to wear in those places.” Fittingly then, Gunner Stahl photographed Kevin Abstract in the resplendent nature of Kauai, Hawaii for the lookbook. See the collection, and read Nick’s thoughts on it, below.
Hey Nick! What made you want to drop your collection on World Environment Day?
Hi i-D! I wanted to say how awesome y’all are and how much I appreciate y’all premiering the lookbook. This whole collection was originally planned to drop on Earth Day (April 22) but I ended up scrapping our entire collection and starting fresh and having a better outlook on what it meant to be inspired by the earth. So we were fortunate enough to find a close day that brings light to the things that inspired this collection
Can you tell me a little about the Earth Wear ethos?
Earth Wear really came about by taking a zoomed out perspective of what it means to make clothes inspired by nature, earth etc. seeing the bigger picture of what I was trying to achieve and what I was inspired by and where these clothes are going to live. I was not just inspired by forests or beaches, but all aspects of the Earth. Sky, dirt, streets, mountains, snow
What were you thinking about creating this collection? What did you want it to say?
I really just everyday sat in my office and put a red light on and had a screen playing videos of helicopter footage of flying over amazing places in the world I have never seen pulling colors and figuring out the clothes I would want to wear in those places.
I honestly never like to give a narrative to my collections while they are in process I know what I’m inspired by and what I want to make but I don’t try to formulate it. I just create and then usually after the collection is out and released I can formulate into words better exactly what I wanted the collection to mean.
What piece are you most excited about?
I’m most excited about everything! They are all my babies!! I’ve personally been loving the bomber jacket and the work pants. The work pants especially I’ve been wearing like everyday the past two months. I’m so happy to have made those pants in Los Angeles and cut exactly the way I wanted. They last really long and give me a lot of confidence
In what natural and fabulous place did Gunner and Kevin make the images?
KAUAI HAWAII!!!! THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE I’VE EVER BEEN. I’ve been vegan the past five years but this place fully took me in and started eating fish there and I never looked back. Amazing community and just amazing place. Loved every aspect of these.
In the spirit of being released back into the world, what is the look this summer?
It depends on who you are. For me, it’s all about mixing layers with comfortability. I love wearing my lightweight work pants with a vintage shirt with a hoodie or crew neck with a light but puffy jacket and a hat or beanie and being able to go up or down on my layers throughout my day
