There are popstars and then there is Charli XCX. There are sunglasses and then there is Ray-Ban. Both represent something that feels several steps ahead of the rest. Quite the natural pairing for a collaboration, if you ask us.
And so, that’s exactly what’s just happened! Charlotte Aitchison, she of Pop 2, Charli and “I thought this f*cking song was big in Germany” fame, has been announced as the new face of Ray-Ban’s #YouAreOn campaign, selected for her trailblazing musical spirit and no-fucks-given attitude. The #YouAreOn campaign is all about the personal style of those who aren’t afraid to stand out.
Charli rocks the Pool Party look in her part of the campaign, wearing vintage-feel frames in tortoise shell as she dances around her LA pad. Her reputation for hosting wild gatherings in the city (pre-Covid, of course) make her the perfect match. “Life’s a party and these players are definitely not wall flowers,” Ray-Ban says of the Pool Party person. “They love to laugh and their passion for living frames how they see the world.” Considering how much of a meme queen and TikTok icon she’s become in the past two years, that sentiment rings true of Charli too.
But Charli’s not the only popstar making her mark on Ray-Ban’s new campaign. Alongside her, Beabadoobee makes an appearance. The Dirty Hit-signed artist, a protege of Matty Healy of The 1975, gets the love she deserves, making her big eyewear campaign debut. “Their looks say everything that needs to be said,” Ray-Ban says of Bea’s culty Vinyl look. Wearing retro-style wire frames, her video was shot in a 70s-esque living room setting, as she bounces about in big baggy blue jeans to the sound of Ray-Ban’s specially commissioned “You’re On” track.
The whole campaign comes with a TikTok challenge too, called the #RayBanElevatorDance. Watch Charli and Bea’s fun episodes of the #YouAreOn series, then head over to TikTok to post videos of you doing the Ray-Ban Elevator dance. Your new Ray-Ban global ambassadors are here. Maybe, if you go viral, you could be joining them too?
