A new New York magazine that subverts the male gaze. Inspired by the 1970s softcore publication Players – which was celebrated for its blend of sensuality, Black culture, and intellect, yet very much catered to the male gaze – photographer Renell Medrano’s ICE MAG has arrived. Instead, it opts for powerful, authentic representation of Black women. Inside, you can expect to find Renell’s showcase of the “Ice Girl,” a prototypal influence for the photographer, based on the women she grew up around in the Bronx as well as the pop cultural figures of her youth.
