A flashy new trailer for the upcoming sci-fi movie Voyagers has just dropped — and it’s even wilder than the last. Starring Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp and Fionn Whitehead as teenagers who have been brought up in space-age isolation, the mission to find a new habitable planet for the human race to colonise just got a little more interesting.
The new trailer reveals a few more details about the sketch of a story we were presented with earlier this month, namely that the mysterious drug we came to know only as “blue” was in fact repressing our heroes’ more primal urges, rather than exacerbating them.
“It’s medication to decrease pleasure,” Tye Sheridan’s character helpfully explains. Still, life aboard this giant white spaceship manages to persist in all its horny, violent glory. Especially when our intrepid explorers decide to go off their meds and, consequently, off the rails. “I’m not drinking it,” declares a disgusted Fionn Whitehead, pouring his dose down the drain. “I want increased pleasure.” At least someone’s been reading their Adrienne Maree Brown.
Our heroine, Lily-Rose Depp, seems to be having a considerably less fun time, despite her implied make-out sessions with Tye Sheridan’s character. In one clip, wearing a full spacesuit (in a rather fetching fluorescent yellow, we might add) the actress looks off at something behind the camera, with an expression of great concern. “They won’t ever see the planet,” she narrates. We would be worried too, tbh.
The next scene features space leader Colin Farrell doing a talking head-style documentary confession, “I want to be honest with them,” he says, ominously. A scene showing the ship experiencing some electronic disruption, the panicked screams of the people on board, and a creepy trail of blood immediately follow. Sounds fake but okay, sir!
