Happy Monday! Yes, it’s raining, it’s cold and grey. Yes, lockdown two is looming and Trump will probably survive coronavirus. But the world isn’t all bad! Here’s some good news for you, because you probably need it: today Palace announced a lovely new cycling-themed capsule collection created in collaboration with Rapha.
We all love a Palace drop, but this one is a little bit different to what we’re used to. The capsule collection will be worn by the WorldTour team EF Pro Cycling at this year’s Giro d’Italia, with Rapha and Palace also redesigning their entire fleet of race bikes and helmets.
Cycling is known for both its chaotic calendar and its lengthy rule book — every cycling bro who arrived at work pre-lockdown in head to toe lycra could explain this to you at length — so today’s drop is extremely 2020 in embracing the unprecedented future and scrapping the rules for a fresh perspective on the cycling aesthetic.
It might seem out of the ordinary for your regularly scheduled capsule collection news, but really it’s a match made in heaven. Rapha and their designs regularly celebrate sport and cycling history, while skate legends Palace are disruptive and straddle the worlds of high fashion, skate and streetwear. With that in mind, it makes sense that they’ve created a team kit — including jersey, shorts, special edition socks, caps and musettes — that stands out both in the peloton and on the rainy hill beside your house that you still cannot master even in first gear.
If biking isn’t your thing, not to worry. There’s also a new range of team edition casual wear from Palace, which will be worn by the team at the Giro and available online alongside the limited edition team kit. The off-bike collection includes T-shirt, Long Sleeve T-shirt, Cap Hoodie, Oxford Shirt and Palace GORE-TEX Jacket. It’s all dropping on 9 October, and in typical Palace style, the quantities are very limited. So better get on your bike (sorry).
