Well, the government was never going to do something to help students, were they? Thankfully, our benevolent king of grime is taking matters into his own hands. On Monday, Stormzy donated a whopping £500,000 to the Black Heart Foundation, an amount that will cover cash grants for around 50 higher education students.
The donation is the first to come from the rapper’s generous pledge back in June. Following the murder of George Floyd by police, Stormzy announced that he would be dedicating £10 million over the next decade to Black British causes.
Ric Lewis, founder of The Black Heart Foundation, expressed his gratitude at the gesture: “We are grateful to the Merky Foundation and invigorated by their generosity. Their contribution is an amazing testament to their vision and commitment to higher and further education for ambitious, hard-working young people from the most under-resourced and under-represented communities in our society,” he said.
“With their support we will reach another 50 young people, taking the total number of scholars we can help to 250. I want to thank everyone that has donated money so far. The response we have had has been incredible.”
