Carhartt WIP know music. Since 2008 — that’s twelve whole years — they’ve been broadcasting monthly radio shows from contributors including Knxwledge, Moxie, Moodymann, Lord Apex and NTS founder Femi Adeyemi. On top of that, their skate videos always have killer soundtracks, they’ve live streamed performances from Carhartt WIP stores across the world during lockdown (hello Taipei artists Sunset Rollercoaster and 9m88) and they’ve teamed up with filmmakers like Akinola Davies Jr on collection-adjacent documentaries that pay tribute to their favourite musicians — check out this Obongjayar collaboration that explores Fela Kuti’s spiritual roots.

Assuming we appreciate their musical values and want more (we do), the New York workwear brand turned European streetwear staple has just announced what might just be your new obsession. RELEVANT PARTIES is a monthly podcast series profiling some of the most groundbreaking independent record labels worldwide, hosted by music journalist and DJ Chal Ravens.

The first six episodes will explore the stories behind New York’s DFA, Michigan-founded Ghostly International, Jazzy Sport from Tokyo, London’s Ninja Tune, LA’s Stones Throw and Public Possession from Munich. Deep diving into the world behind the music, RELEVANT PARTIES will hear from label heads, artists and tastemakers as they discuss past successes, the enduring importance of independent record labels, and the realities of a post-pandemic music industry.

Episode 1 of Carhartt WIP’s RELEVANT PARTIES is due for release 15 August
