Depending on where you are in the world as you read this, we are several months (at the very least) into a worldwide pandemic the likes of which has not been seen for, like, a hundred years. At this point, if you’re not on board with the concept of wearing masks to prevent the spread of infection, I don’t know what to tell you except that you’re dumb and selfish. But here we are! Rolling lockdowns across the world, and still there are Karens out there determined not to cover their faces. It’s so ridiculous now that even Stevie Nicks, our reigning Supreme, has been forced to wade into the discourse.
In a diary entry, the world’s favourite witch is imploring us all to wise up and wear masks so we can get on with our lives and protect the most vulnerable members of our society. Urging us all to follow her call to become “Spiritual Warriors”, Stevie writes: “If everyone could just wear a mask and stay in as much as possible — you might be able to find this magical place I have found, in the early morning when everyone sleeps.”
Sharing the journal entry to Twitter, the musical icon alludes to the fact that she is experiencing many of the issues plaguing us all in the age of Miss Rona (namely boredom, uncertainty and insomnia), writing the short passage at 6.50am while listening to Crosby, Stills and Nash and the Rolling Stones. Extremely on brand for Stevie Nicks. She also shared her hope for a post-pandemic, brighter tomorrow, writing: “In order for us all to get back to our former lives — we must all change into spiritual warriors. We must make it our mission to fight the virus; otherwise there is nothing left.
“I want to go back on the road. I want to sing for you again. I want to put on those high black suede platform boots and dance for you again. I want you to forget the world and sing with me,” she added. “Please don’t throw this world away. Please don’t give up on humanity and let this virus win this war. It is up to us now.”
Basically, if you’re not wearing a mask at this point you are personally letting down Stevie Nicks and making her sad. Shame on you, tbh.
