THE GUi-DE: an auction of Freddie Mercury’s estate & an Andy Warhol book

Read, watch, wear, listen, see… how to spend your week, according to i-D.

Happy Monday! The new week is here and with it comes the chance to delve deep into some fresh culture and fashion. Here’s your latest look at the i-D Guide.

    Ferragamo

    Wear… Ferragamo trousers

We’re loving Maximilian Davis’ touches at Ferragamo. If you’re on the look-out for a piece that sums up the spirit of his stint at the brand, perhaps these red and black printed trousers with a tie-dye effect (£2205) should be the top of your list. Buy them from SSENSE here.

    A Bathing Ape incense holder

    Buy… A Bathing Ape homeware

Hypebeasts unite: you can now furnish your home with BAPE goodness. Nigo’s Japanese brand now offers up mugs, coasters and incense holders. Check it all out on Selfridges here.

Andy Warhol. Seven Illustrated Books 1952–1959

Buy… Andy Warhol. Seven Illustrated Books 1952–1959

Warhol’s more delicate, illustrated work feels like the antithesis of his pop art. Seven of his illustrated books from the 50s have been compiled by Taschen into a coveted collection (£60). Buy it here.

    Watch… Lie to Me

Fans of Philippe Besson’s 2017 novel about teenage queer love and its complex aftereffects will be glad to know it’s been turned into a handsomely made, intriguingly formed feature length film. It’s in UK cinemas and VOD from Friday 18 August before arriving in the US in November.

    Listen to… LIAR

Music about, as ØYA Festival put it, “the mess of it all”, slippery synth dance outfit LIAR are taking it slow when it comes to what they make. But what they have shown us is captivating and dangerous. Like last year’s “Dangerous Goods” which we’re retroactively crowning with our favourite line of 2022: “Suck on my titties real quick / They’re laced with arsenic.” Jesus!!! Follow their IG here.

    field day 2023 line-up

    Go to… Field Day

A long-time festival favourite of i-D (we even hosted a stage there once upon a time) London’s premier day of electronic music is returning to its spiritual home of Victoria Park in the capital’s East End. This year’s edition features an absolutely stacked lineup; from classic acts such as SBTRKT and Kai Campos of Mount Kimble to modern-day icons LSDXOXO, Kelela and Arca. Oh, and the small matter of a hugely awaited headline spot from ambient legend Aphex Twin.

Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own exhibition auction in london

Go to… Freddie Mercury: A World of His Own

At Sotheby’s in London, a comprehensive collection of Freddie Mercury’s possessions are on display ahead of being put up for auction. Among them: a huge collection of furniture, swathes of cat memorabilia, owing to Freddie’s infatuation with them, polaroids from his hedonistic, celebrity-filled parties and the baby grand piano he wrote “Bohemian Rhapsody” on. Check out the exhibition for free. More information here.
