Hey Upper East Siders, the reboot to our favourite noughties melodrama, Gossip Girl, now has a cast! Leading the new group of New York teen socialites being terrorised by an omniscient, sadistic social media presence is Emily Alyn Lind, known best for her roles in Stephen King’s The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep, and the Netflix comedy-horror The Babysitter.
The Blair to her Serena — both her BFF and worst enemy — will be played by Whitney Peak (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) while the rest of the main cast is filled out with Eli Brown (Spinning Out, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists), Johnathan Fernandez (the Lethal Weapon TV series ) and newcomer Jason Gotay. While Kristen Bell, who voiced the blasts of Gossip Girl, will be returning to the infamous role, it is unclear whether any of the other 2007-12 cast will also be featured.
Series creators Josh Schwarz and Stephanie Savage previously promised that the show would be much more diverse and will include much more “queer content” than its original run. Currently, little else is known about the 10 episode reboot, the characters or whether it will address the original shows misogyny problem. What we do know is that it will be on the new HBO Max and will be set eight years after the original Gossip Girl site went down. Invariably it will reflect today’s social media landscape that barely existed during the shows first run. Does this mean we’re going to get Gossip Girl’s blasts via TikTok?
