This story originally appeared in i-D’s The Icons and Idols Issue, no. 359, Spring 2020. Order your copy here.

In the glorious 40 year history of i-D we’ve done pretty much everything; a lot of magazines, obviously (this is the 359th issue), but we’ve also put on countless parties, made zines, books, films, created T-shirts and hoodies, posters and stickers… recently, we even released some branded condoms. But now we’re doing something completely and wonderfully new: launching our very own lipstick.

Created in collaboration with Parisian make-up innovators La Bouche Rouge, it is an absolutely ecstatic shade of hot pink – as seen in these pages modelled exquisitely on the wonderful face of Binx Walton. It is called i-D NO.1 1980, partly because it is the same colour pink as the logo that graced our very first issue, partly because it is a celebration of our continued beauty and our everlasting youth.

That first issue is incredibly rare these days, but this fabulous lipstick is in stores right now. Even better? La Bouche Rouge is plastic-free, not tested on animals and for every lipstick sold, they donate the equivalent of 100 litres of drinking water to the non-profit Eau Vive Internationale in Togo; this lipstick will change your life and save the world.

You can pick up one of La Bouche Rouge’s i-D NO.1 1980 lipsticks, with refillable case, here.
