Michael Kors believes in a cozy kind of glamour

The designer enlisted country singer Orville Peck to perform at his AW20 show, an equestrian romp.

Michael Kors took over the American Stock Exchange to present his AW20 collection, transforming the space into a country home—the runway made of unfinished wooden boards and framed by barn windows—to evoke “the feeling of escaping into nature.”

Country singer Orville Peck, in his signature leather, beaded mask, took to the stage just as Kors’ models began to file out. From the first look, he channeled what the designer called a “cozy kind of glamour,” replete with country plaids, oversize cable knits, blanket capes, shearling coats, cow print, of course, and equestrian-inspired tailoring. All of i-D’s favourites were there: Mica Argañaraz swaddled in a black, wool cape, Kaia Gerber sporting a burnt orange turtleneck and suede riding boots, Binx Walton in a swinging paisley tent dress, and Bella Hadid in a shimmering sheer pleated evening gown.

Even the more formal looks were topped off with town and country touches, from the rich leather buckled trim and boots, to the sweeping whipstitched scarves. “We all dream of getting out and getting away and feeling secure, cozy and grounded,” the designer said on Instagram, rather convincingly. “That’s what this show is all about.”
