Everyone owns a jumper they hold close to their heart. Whether it’s your dad’s cashmere pull-over you refuse to give back, an oversized, formless one you dug up at a local thrift store, or a sleek and chic number that somehow goes with everything you wear, sweaters seem to stand the test of time. This list will soon be joined by one from Pringle of Scotland’s new repurposed collection, which launches today.
For this capsule collection, the label reworked unwanted items from their old stock and transformed them into one-of-a-kind pieces. The materials for each piece were found all over the Pringle design studios in London and at the brand’s Scottish headquarters in Hawick, where Pringle’s famed cashmere pieces are still made. Old chopped-up prototypes, vintage knitwear, fabric swatches, o-cuts and yarn from stock no longer made all came together to spin new life from old wool.
The collection is in line with the label’s commitment to sustainability — celebrating the reusing, recycling and transforming of old fabrics and clothes that is steadily catching on within the wider fashion industry — and will available at LN-CC in London.
The team delved into their own archives and started patching together old jumpers, creating a new knitting pattern for the style they are trying to achieve. “Often we fall in love with our original ‘patched’ design,” Fran Stringer, Womenswear Design Director of the label says. “[This] inspired the idea of using old garments and reimagining them as something brand new — something to be loved all over again.”
