Burberry has launched its SS20 campaign today, blending the eccentric and the classic to create something traditional and fresh, a la Riccardo Tisci’s vision for the house. “I have been working for a few seasons to define a new identity and visual language for this house, and this campaign feels like the beginning,” Riccardo explained in a statement. “I wanted to celebrate the men and women who represent Burberry – some who have been a long-standing part of my career and others who have started this Burberry journey with me.”
Shot by Inez and Vinoodh, the campaign stars some of i-D’s all time favourites: Bella Hadid,Mona Tougaard, Freja Beha Erichsen, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Benji Arvay, He Cong, Nozomu Ito, Reece Nelson, Tosin Olajire and Rianne van Rompaey — deep breath — to name just a few.
The new collection features, of course, some of the luxury brand’s iconic pieces for men and women — including tailoring, evening wear and trench coats — as well as its signature bags, which are inspired by the house’s founder Thomas Burberry.
“Burberry for me means traditional craftsmanship bound in new ideas and creativity,” Mona said about working on the campaign. “I think Burberry plays a huge role in fashion as it represents so many generations, respecting and reinterpreting its legacy, as well as creating future classics for the new generation.” We couldn’t agree more.
