Listen to Art School Girlfriend’s transformative Chapter 10 mix

Queer goth-pop, but make it for the club.

Back in July we introduced you to Margate’s very own Art School Girlfriend. Also known as Polly Mackey, the musician — who used to front shoegaze band Deaf Club — writes beautiful goth-pop about queer identity, lust and disillusionment. Imagine that, but reworked for the dancefloor. Pretty cool, huh? That’s what happened when Polly was invited to play at cult London club night Chapter 10 earlier this year. “I was over the moon to be asked to play a live set,” she told i-D. “They wanted to push the idea of what a queer rave could be, and I wanted to push the boundary of Art School Girlfriend’s musical identity. I live-remixed four of my tracks, and it turned out to be one of my favourite shows. I was so inspired by seeing people dance and giving my songs a different purpose that I wanted to remix and release three of my older tracks.”

Out 6 December on London’s Wolf Tone records, the resulting EP is ideal for when you’re feeling a lot of feelings but also fancy a big night out. To celebrate the impending release (and to commiserate the end of an era as Chapter 10 takes over Bloc for the very last time this weekend) this mix reimagines what Art School Girlfriend played that night — remixes and all. It’s almost like you were there! Enjoy!
